Falling apart
Ripped from reality, a series of objects emerge from an infinite darkness. Bathed in colorful lights, we are welcomed into an eerily familiar yet entirely new dimension. Every detail of these everyday items is heightened as they are immersed in the rich blackness.
Opening this portal into an alternate world, I manipulate the use of the common scanner. For this series, I deliberately selected an array of ordinary objects. What emerges is a tension between control and spontaneity. Placing them upon the scanner’s bed, intentionally arranging them, and meticulously thinking out my composition, the piece would seem to be entirely within my power. However, through the use of the scanner, a new unpredictability enters this artistic equation. I am in the dark until the final image is captured.
Red, blues, pinks, and more envelop the subjects imbuing them with their own individual energy. Metamorphosed through their journey into darkness, each object takes on a surreal reimagination of itself leaving viewers questioning the reality in which they exist.
